Concept paper reflection

I am very happy with the concept paper we made. It is clear and talks about a very important idea: how students feel when they learn a new language. Our paper is about the Korean language class and it compares two ways of teaching. First, the old way, which is face-to-face (F2F) in a classroom. Second, the new way, which is online (like using Google Meet). The main word we use is Social Presence. This just means how much a student feels that the teacher and other students are real people who are truly with them. When you feel connected, you have high Social Presence. We were smart to focus on three key things: Cue Richness: This is about all the little social signs we see, like smiles, eye contact, and the tone of voice. We know F2F has more of these than online learning. Warmth: This is how friendly and close students feel to each other in the class. Involvement: This is how much students want to talk and join in on the activities. It is a great idea to check these three points....

Learning Practical Arts

I want to learn and master essential vocational skills because I believe they will improve my daily life, making me more independent, creative, and capable. That’s why I plan to enroll in a vocational school to gain deep, structured knowledge. My focus right now is on Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, and Dressmaking, and I have clear, detailed goals. Even though I don’t usually cook, I am determined to learn practical skills like safely and quickly dicing vegetables and mastering cooking techniques so I can prepare meals from scratch, reduce takeout, and cut down on food waste by preserving food effectively. For baking, I want to be able to bake my own bread and create beautiful cakes without relying on a bakery. When it comes to dressmaking, I aim to become comfortable threading a sewing machine, sewing straight lines, and doing simple repairs and alterations. This will allow me to hem my own trousers and fix tears, saving money and giving me control over my wardrobe. To prepare...

My Journey to Learn Every Language

Image
If I could learn about anything, I would choose to learn every language in the world. Language learning fascinates me because it opens doors to diverse cultures, enhances my communication with people from all backgrounds, and deepens understanding of human expression. By mastering languages, I could connect globally, appreciate literature in its original form, and contribute more effectively in multicultural environments. It is also beneficial for me to learn all languages for I am an aspiring college student that is currently learning Language as it's major. To achieve this ambitious goal, I would turn to a variety of resources. First, I would use language learning apps and online platforms that can cater to different language levels and provide interactive lessons for me to adapt. Next, I would immerse myself by listening to music, podcasts, watching movies and TV shows, and reading newspapers and books in the target languages to absorb idiomatic expressions and contexts natura...

My English Learning Comic

Image
I recently used Bitstrips to create this comic strip, which is all about a journey of overcoming the struggle to learn English vocabulary and discovering the effectiveness of using educational videos and books. While the content shows finally succeeding with videos and flashcards, the process of creating the comic itself was a journey. As a first-timer using Bitstrips, it was challenging because I had no prior experience making a comic. Although it was fun and enjoyable to make a story, it also had limitations, you are limited to choose from the available characters and scenes. Despite having to work within those parameters, this tool was a fantastic way to visually capture a progress from struggling with a textbook to realizing that finding the right web tools and books makes all the difference. Practice truly pays off when you learn smarter, not just harder.

My concept paper reflection.

Getting this concept paper ready was much tougher than we thought, right from the start. We knew we wanted to study the big change between online and face-to-face Korean class—something we really felt in our Foreign Language 1 course—but finding a good survey to use was a nightmare. We looked everywhere and just couldn't find one that fit our exact needs, which meant we had to change a lot of things in the paper itself. All those changes and revisions felt like a big push, but they were important. It showed us that good research means being ready to stop and fix things when they're not working, and we had to rely on each other to get past that first hard bump. The project only worked because my groupmates and I put in the effort together. We made sure to share the work, but we also worked on connecting our pieces so the whole paper made sense. For my own part, I tried my best to link everything I wrote to the main idea of our research capsule. I made sure it wasn't just my ...

The Journey of Two Classrooms

Image
At Central Mindanao University, a bright group of 2nd-Year students was on a journey, to learn the Korean language. They had to master this language in two wildly different lands, and a wise researcher named Andrea wanted to map their journey. The first land was the face-to-face Classroom, a world of real-life interaction. Here, every signal was clear. When the teacher said annyeonghaseyo (hello), you didn't just hear the sound, you saw the sparkle in their eyes, the quick, welcoming tilt of their head, and the way the entire class leaned forward. If a classmate was puzzled, you could see their brow furrow and nudge them gently. This world was loaded with tiny, useful signals, like a high-definition movie. This signal is Cue Richness. The second land was the Digital Screen, accessed through platforms like Google Meet. The students were tiny squares on a grid. Smiles were often missed, and if the internet lagged, the teacher became a jerky, silent painting. The essential signa...
